WBC

WBC#22 lightfly Petchtapee Pinsinchai successfully retained his ABCO lightfly title as he won a unanimous decision over WBE 108lb title holder Jun Arlos (32-17-4,13 KOs) on Wednesday at Imperial World Store in Ladprao, Bangkok. The bout was a close affair but the Thai fighter looked better for his fast footwork and sharp jabs in the first seven rounds. Although the experienced Filipino speeded his assault in the rest of the rounds, there was no effect for the Thai fast-footworker. All scores were 115-113. In other action, ABCO#5 fly Maxsaisai Pinsinchai (5-0,3 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over Dondon Jimenea (14-4-2, 7 KOs) when the Filipino refused to continue at the beginning of round nine. This event was promoted by Maj.Gen.Savek Pinsinchai, the chairman of Aswindam Boxing Promotion.

Linares returns to Japan

Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions, Inc. has announced that a couple of golden boys under his management, WBA/WBC#5 feather Jorge Linares (16-0, 10 KOs) and Takahiro Ao (8-0, 5 KOs) will appear beneath a world twinbill in Yokohama, Japan, on September 25. Unbeaten Linares, from Venezuela, called 'Nino de Oro,' left his second motherland Japan after dispatching Luis Perez, Mexico, by a one-punch KO in the fourth beneath the WBC bantam title go in Tokyo last April. Linares impressively stopped Jesus Perez to acquire the WBA Fedecentro feather belt in Argentina in May, and quickly halted Jean Javier Sotelo in just two rounds in Venezuela this August.

Linares will face Filipino #2 contender Ayon Naranjo (13-5, 5 KOs) on the undercard. Honda says, "We hope Jorge to win the world belt here in Japan, and then go and fight in the US in the near future." The vastly talented Linares is very popular here and is highly expected to show a good performance in September. Also, six-time national high school champ Ao, a southpaw boxer-puncher, will square off against unbeaten Korean Jaechun Moon on the same show.

Briggs KO

Briggs finished the 'Heavyweight Heat' card Friday at Hard Rock Live Arena with a seventh-round knockout of Ray Mercer.

The two veterans, both long removed from their glory days when they took on the likes of Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and George Foreman, lumbered through six unimpressive rounds in front of a largely empty house that vacated after the undercard wrapped up.

In the seventh, just as Mercer (34-6-1) pinned Briggs (43-4-1, 37 KOs) to the ropes, he wildly missed with a right hook and found himself against the twine, facing the crowd.

Briggs, who once roomed with Mercer when the two shared a trainer, kept his opponent prone with his left arm before delivering a string of rights to Mercer's uncovered face, flooring the Jacksonville, Florida native in seconds.

"I've been off for a long time," Briggs said. "I have a lot of rust and it showed tonight. I think I'm one of the most talented heavyweights in the world but I'm very rusty, my timing is off. But I know what I have in me."

Barrera-Peden

Both WBC Super Featherweight Champion Marco Antonio Barrera and IBF Super Featherweight Champion Robbie Peden are bunkered down in their respective training camps anticipating and awaiting their September 17 unification showdown as the main event of the Golden Boy Promotions Parade of Champions fight card from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and live on HBO Pay-Per-View. Taken from eyewitness reports at both training camps, below is a detailed report of the strenuous and dedicated rituals each fighter executes to fully prepare for their pending battle.

Shark mauls Davis

Archak "Shark Attack" TerMeliksetian won via third round TKO over Reggie Davis in a spirited Jr. Middleweight bout that turned extremely bloody as the Glendale native used fast combinations to bust up and bloody his opponent to the extent that the ringside physician advised referee Tony Crebs to stop the bout after the end of the third due to a seriously broken nose. The main even took place outside on a cool night at Rincon's Harrah's Casino in northern San Diego County. The crowd of an estimated 1300 enjoyed seven bouts promoted by Patrick Ortiz/Ringside Ticket. Special guest Joe Frazier was on hand to meet patrons and sign some autographs.
