End

your roadwork with a cool down walk of a quarter mile. Always dress for the season. If you catch a cold during training you may have just lost your fight.
One rule I follow during training is never slack during training. If you slack during training you will slack during your fightAlways give 100 percent during training and you will give 100 percent during your fight. Boxing is 90 percent mental 10 percent physical. Train your mind to always give 100 percent. Never Give Up!

13. JUMPING JACKS

Jumping jacks are great for your cardiovascular system.

14. JOGGING Jogging should be done at your individual pace. Always use proper stretching before your roadwork. Boxers do not jog the way regular people do. When we mean roadwork, it is just that - work. When jogging, throw punches, run backwards, shuffle side to side, and if you feel you need to strengthen, carry weights (ankle and wrist weights are ideal).

Training Program Part Three

11. PULL UPS Do your pull ups first with palms facing you and then away from you.
12. PUSH-UPS When doing push-ups, I suggest doing them on your fingertips. This will strengthen your hands and reduce injury to your hands. I suggest never doing push-ups on your knuckles because enough stress is given to the area when you are punching. For the beginner, I suggest doing your push ups with your knees on the ground. Some call these girl push-ups, but I use them to progress into the harder push-ups where you keep your body straight. Working out is not about being macho, it is about getting in shape in a safe and effective manner.

9. CRUNCHES

Doing crunches will strengthen and harden your abdominal area. This will help when your opponent strikes you in that area.
10. DUCK WALK To do a duck walk you must get in a crouched position keeping your bottom as close to the ground as possible. Hold your hands up high and walk first in a straight line and then backwards. Then walk in a circle clockwise, and then counter clockwise. This will strengthen your legs and give you stamina

When a boxer

throws the same combination each time, his or her opponent can figure them out and remedy a counter combination. Mix things up! Confuse your opponent by not being predictable. And remember, always keep your hands up.

8. SPEED BAG Learning to use a speed bag takes alot of patience. Using a speed bag will increase punching speed, hand-eye coordination, and timing. This is another part of my workout that I enjoy doing the most. Start by hitting the speed bag with one hand. Let the bag make one complete repetition and then hit it on the way back. Meaning, when you hit the bag, let it hit the far side of the platform, and then the front side of the platform, and then as it is halfway back towards the far side of the platform strike it again. This will give you the rhythm you’re looking for. It took me a week or two to get used to using a speed bag.

When they

do this, their punches are not solid ones, their fingers act as shock absorbers. If you know what handed your opponent is, being left or right handed, you need to circle your bag in the direction away from their power hand. For example, if your opponent is right handed, circle to his left. This will keep you out of his power range and keep you from getting knocked out. Keep on the balls up your feet. Never rest on your heels, because if you receive a solid blow you will be knocked backwards or even down. Keeping on the balls of your feet will help you maintain your balance. Always mix up your combination of punches.

Tuesday, December 06, 2005

This

will tire you out and you’ll lose your speed. Next, keep your power at the end of your punches. This means that when your fist strikes the bag your arms are fully extended. By doing this, you have more leverage on your punches and thus more power. Hit the bag with your top knuckles and not your finger knuckles. This will give you a solid punch and reduce chances of injury. A lot of boxers make the mistake of slapping their punches. This means they hit with the knuckles of their fingers.

7. PUNCHING BAG

I consider using the punching bag the most fun part of my workout. This is where you can really visualize your opponent in what you want to do to him or her. There are many important things to remember when using a punching bag. To the beginner, combining all aspects will be a great challenge. I suggest taking one aspect at a time and mastering it. First, when throwing a punch, keep muscles loose and snap your punches out. Don’t-tightened your muscles.

Training Program

Part Two
6. SLIPS Practicing slips is just as much mental as it is physical. A slip is basically ducking a punch. To slip a punch, you twist at the hips, bend at the knees, and bend slightly forward always keeping your eyes on your opponent. When practicing this maneuver you must visualize your opponent throwing a punch. Remember to stay on the balls of your feet.
